Belcher Co.Small-business software · Wisconsin

The parts of running a business nobody got into business for.

Belcher Co. builds the small, specific software that replaces the workaround, and then keeps it running. A plan first, a price before the work, one person to call. How a project goes.

  • The quote you retype in Word every timeNow a form. Takes four minutes.
  • The schedule that lives in text messagesNow a calendar the crew can see.
  • The spreadsheet only one person understands
  • The website nobody's been able to update in years
  • The CRM you pay for and don't open
  • Retyping the invoice into the accounting software

What I do

Fig. 2 — Scope of services

Internal tools

The spreadsheet, binder, or whiteboard that runs the shop, turned into a small piece of software more than one person can use. Job tracking, scheduling, quoting, inventory. Whatever the workaround is covering for.

Websites

Keeping the website working, current, and yours. Updates, hosting, the contact form that quietly stopped sending. If it needs rebuilding I'll say so. Often it doesn't.

CRM setup and cleanup

A CRM you'll actually open. Or cleaning up the one you have. Or getting you out of the one you're paying for and not using, without losing the customer list.

Connecting things

Making the systems you already have talk to each other, so the same order doesn't get typed in three times.

Getting off the big tool

Salesforce, Procore, and the rest are built for companies with a department to run them. If yours is fighting you, there is usually a smaller thing that fits.

Maintenance

Ongoing, on a monthly arrangement. Software needs someone paying attention to it the way a truck does. Somebody should like this part of the job, and I do.

How a project goes

Conversation and discoveryAn hour, no charge, then a short paid look at how work actually moves through the business. It ends in a written plan you own and can take anywhere.
Quote and buildOne price for the agreed scope, set by what the work is worth to the business rather than by the hour. You see it running on your data every couple of weeks.
Handoff and retainerIt's documented and yours. If you'd rather have someone on call, a monthly arrangement covers that, and most people drift to it eventually.

Who's behind it
